Even though he stood 6’3”, legendary heavyweight champ Muhammad Ali is still dwarfed by the towering 7'1"Wilt Chamberlain in this dual-signed photograph.
Several times during the period 1965-1971, the famous subjects kicked around the idea of facing each other in the boxing ring. This scene with Ali deflecting a Chamberlain jab, took place in 1967, in a promotional appearance on ABC’s Wide World of Sports program. Each time a fight was considered, Chamberlain was talked out of it, and though the fight never happened, the showmanship of these legends made for great theater.
This 16” x 20” photograph is tightly framed to overall dimensions of 17” x 21”, and the studio setting is a great example of 1960s mod style. Chamberlain has located a large-and-in-charge signature at center, and he has included the inscription “#13”. Ali has signed over his left hand, in a scene that captured the exact moment he was slapping away Chamberlain’s fist.
