Description

Strange bedfellows are paired, with this Pete Rose and Bart Giamatti dual-signed baseball.

Giamatti's tenure as MLB Commissioner was the shortest of anyone to hold the office, ending with his death just five months after attaining the position in 1989. Though it was a short run as baseball's head man in charge, Giamatti's term was made famous when he negotiated Rose's voluntarily acceptance of a permanent place on baseball's ineligible list. After many long years, Rose's lifetime ban from the game was lifted earlier this year, when current commissioner Rob Manfred declared a lifetime ban comes to an end when a subject on the ineligible list dies. Rose, who passed away a little over a year ago, is now eligible for Hall of Fame enshrinement, with the earliest opportunity for election coming in 2027.

The offered baseball is a J. DeBeer and Son League Ball model in attractive condition, with light toning. Giamatti (d.1989) has signed on the sweet spot, and Rose has signed sharply on the south panel. Rose and Giamatti dual-signed baseballs appear to be few in number, and currently offered examples come with a steep asking price. This may be your best shot at getting a fully certified one.
