A fifth round draft pick for San Diego in 1972, Randy Jones quickly advanced to the point where he won the Cy Young Award in 1976. This jersey from his debut season is a size 40 black and gold Rawlings, to which the pitcher has applied a personalized ("8-9") signature, “To ‘Mike’ Best Wishes, R. Jones.” The Padres wore this style uniform for only two seasons, 72 and 73. The jersey comes with a detailed letter from Phil Wood for game-worn authenticity, and an Auction LOA from James Spence/JSA for the autograph. In addition, this jersey comes with a letter from Mike Specht, a writer/photographer working with the San Diego Padres, describing how he was gifted the uniform by a Padres executive and how Randy Jones signed the jersey in his presence while he was interviewing Jones for a story in 1978. Impeccable provenance.
