The New Haven Murlins were a Class B minor league team that existed during the 1910s, competing in the Connecticut State and Eastern leagues. Of the players depicted on the offered postcards Bressler, Naylor, Nutter and Woodward went on to become Major Leaguers. Since the year 1900 Bressler is counted as one of six players to start more than fifty games as a pitcher before converting to a role as a position player.
Both of the offered postcards present much better than the assigned technical grade with only very minor wear on the corner/edges preventing a higher designation. The photo surfaces are clean with nice original gloss and are free of creases, pinholes and writing common to the genre. The 1916 card shows exceptionally bold player images and the reverse has an unblemished off-white coloring. The 1917 card is a bit muted however all details remain easily discernable, the reverse is a light-cream color with a few very minor spots of discoloring.
For those of you wondering what the heck a Murlin is, research reveals two uses for this unfortunate name, a type of catapult or a type of seaweed. For the record H&S is going with catapult.
