In a thwarted attempt to retain the U.S. Presidency for an unprecedented seventh straight term, the Republican Party was represented by James Blaine and John Logan in the 1884 election. Issued by Chicago’s Daily Inter Ocean (a partisan newspaper that supported the Republican party), this 1884 campaign poster portrays the running mates with the likenesses of former Chief Executives Washington, Lincoln and Garfield in the back drop. The thick stock item is accented by a stars-and-stripes themed design and ornate finery. The scarce relic presents nicely.
Note: the piece is minimally affected by a tiny tear along the right border and a faint moisture-induced stain on the left. The piece remains crisp, however, and is an ideal candidate for framed display.
