Glancing at Jimmie Foxx’s impressive statistics, one would be inclined to surmise that he was worth his weight in gold. Thinking along those lines, The American Home presented the Philadelphia Athletics slugger with this sterling silver medal for his efforts in 1935. Measuring 1-15/16 x 3-3/16” with rounded corners, the 7.2-oz. sterling silver prize has engravings which read: “ACHIEVEMENT MEDAL AWARDED BY THE AMERICAN HOME – JIMMIE FOXX 1935.” On the reverse, an ornate relief design portrays an outdoor garden. In his final season with the Athletics, Foxx clubbed a league-best 36 home runs in 1936 to warrant this unique bestowal.
