Manhattan’s “in” spot during the “Murderers Row” era and for decades after, Benny’s Rainbow Restaurant was frequented by sports celebrities from Ruth to Gehrig to Marciano (and thousands in between). Returning the favor during the early-1930s, Benny paid Gehrig a visit in the Bronx, where the two were hand-shaking subjects of this vintage photograph. Measuring 7-15/16 x 9-7/8”, the double weight stock sepia-toned photo is a Type I relic with a blank reverse. With only minor corner creases and right edge fissures, the piece presents nicely and is ideal for display.
