Enjoy what may well be a singular experience, with the claiming of this 1919-1922 Louisville Slugger side-written bat. The name burned into the barrel of this antique stick is “Thomas”, and it is attributed to Myles Thomas, by the bat’s longtime owner, though the accompanying LOA does not confirm use by Thomas. The factory labeling brand at center is of a type that positively dates the manufacture to the period 1919-1922. Myles Thomas played with the New York Yankees from 1926-1929, suggesting this bat was back stock, and his name was added when he made it to the Majors. The LOA notes, that bats of this type were “inscribed with the length, weight, player’s name, date received, and team affiliation”. This information is no longer visible in the box near the barrel where it would have appeared, however the name “Thomas”, impressed in block letters is distinct, located to the left of the side labeling area. Evidence of authentic use is strong, with numerous ball marks on the barrel, and a handle crack with a nail repair. A pitcher, Thomas went 7-4 with the 1927 Yankees. He was also a fair hitter, batting .333 in 1927, .400 in 1928, and finishing with a career average of .240, and a lifetime record of 23-22. Full LOA from John Taube-PSA/DNA. The size/weight of this item requires that there will be an additional shipping charge for this lot. Opening Bid $200.
