An ancient MLB war club emerges with this 1912 Spalding Miller Huggins Gold Medal Autograph Series pro model bat. Weighing in at a hefty 42.1 ounces, this 31-1/2" ash bat is labeled "Spalding Autograph" at center, with a facsimile of Miller Huggins' signature burned in between the block letter words. Stamped into the knob are the letters "Mc M". This antique bat is not cracked and shows outstanding use including contact marks, cleat impressions, and grain swelling on the barrel, along with chips on opposite sides of the knob.

Assigning a grade of (GU 6), the accompanying 4-page LOA explains the manufacture, ordering, and use by MLB players of Spalding Gold Medal Autograph Series bats, neither affirming or refuting use by Huggins, who turned in his career best batting mark off .304 in 1912 while manning the second base position for the St. Louis Cardinals. The only player we could find from the 1912 labeling period of this bat, whose name starts with the letters McM, is Tommy McMillan, a shortstop for the New York Highlanders. LOA from John Taube-PSA/DNA.

The size/weight of this item requires that there will be an additional shipping charge for this lot. Opening Bid $300.
