This letter from club president Clark C. Griffith on “Washington American League Base Ball Club” Spring Training stationery is dated January 24, 1948 to Al Kozar of Pittsburgh, PA, a new rookie prospect. It states:

“Friend Kozar, Received your letter of the 19th enclosing signed contract. In your letter you asked about reporting and I beg to advise you that the pitchers and catchers report on the 1st of March and the regulars report on the 6th of March. You will receive transportation from the Washington office in due time. With all good wishes, I am yours most sincerely,” and the typewritten letter is signed “Clark Griffith.” It has been encapsulated by PSA/DNA with the certified auto grade NM-MT 8. Hall of Famer Griffith had a great career as a pitcher and manager before he became owner of the Washington Senators, while Kosar, unfortunately, only ended up playing three years in the big leagues. Opening Bid $150.
