Double down on 14th U.S. President Franklin Pierce, with these (2) signed items. A single-term president from 1853-1857, Pierce was a Democrat from New Hampshire, who served as a both a Senator and a Congressman for the New England state.
The first of these signed items is a 5" x 7" piece of correspondence dated "April 24, 1854" while Pierce occupied the White House. Written elegantly as "His Excellency Franklin Pierce," this handsome signature is a fairly bold ("9") strength application. Also seen on this piece are Pierce's ("8") strength initials.
The second piece is a 3-3/8" x 1-1/2" cut adhered to a backer with adhesive residue on the back. A flamboyant example, this signature shows a ("6"-"7") degree of potency. A partial Concord postmark stamp is located below the signature, suggesting this piece dates from Pierce's final years while living in his cottage at Little Boar's Head.
