Join the high stakes game of capture the flag, for this scarce 1868 presidential campaign souvenir. After battling his way up from West Point, through the Mexican-American War and the Civil War, Ulysses S. Grant rose to the prestigious rank of General of the Army in 1866. A masterful tactician, Grant ran for president a couple of years later, winning the 1868 election in a landslide. Grant and his first term vice president Schuyler Colfax are seen here, in a c.1868 presidential campaign flag. This scarce silk flag measures 19" x 11-1/2”, and is professionally mounted to overall dimensions of 24" x 17" in a handsome burled wood frame. Though faded and bearing some light staining, the integrity of the graphics and lettering is sufficient for display, and status as one of the earliest examples of a jugate campaign flag make this ancient relic a noble prize for political collectors.
