When the divisional play era dawned in 1969, the Baltimore Orioles were a happy flock of ballplayers. Under head bird watcher Earl Weaver, the O's established an AL East dynasty, finishing first in five of the first six seasons under the new division format. Rich in pitching, power and defense, Baltimore also made three consecutive trips to the World Series, from 1969-1971. Hall of Fame teammates Brooks Robinson and Jim Palmer did more than share great success, they also shared the offered game-used bat. Confirmed with factory records for the labeling period 1969-1972, this crack free Louisville Slugger model S100 is a signature model, made for peerless third sacker Robinson. Weighing in at 31.5 ounces, this 34.5" long bat shows considerable signs of authentic use with contact marks, baseball stitch impressions, bat rack paint streaks, and tape/pine tar residue. Written on the knob, is a faded number "5" for Robinson, and a much bolder number "22" for Palmer. Pre-dating the implementation of the DH in 1973, the four-year labeling period of 1969-1972 saw Palmer come to plate more than 400 times. Palmer did a respectable job as a batter, banging out 72 hits, and 26 sacrifice bunts during this period, with some portion of his contact coming with this bat in his hands. Proudly wrap your hands around this historic treasure, after you hammer home the winning bid for this important gamer. Full LOA from John Taube of PSA/DNA. Opening Bid $500.
