Recognition for a baseball tactician arrives with these (2) BBWAA Awards. Presented by the Boston Chapter of the Baseball Writers Association of America, these trays were the personal property of renowned Baltimore Orioles manager Earl Weaver. As skipper, the Hall of Fame manager was in charge of the O’s from 1968-1982, and again from 1985-1986. Considered a shrewd baseball mind, Weaver put forth the winning formula "pitching, defense, and the three-run homer," to win 4 AL pennants and the 1970 World Series. The boys up in Boston thought enough of him to award him twice with:

1970 A.L. Manager of the Year Award, signed by Weaver (“8”) with the inscriptions “Best Wishes, 1970.” Sized with a 16” diameter, this circular tray is rimmed with a 1-1/4” high silver-plated ring, with a design of interlocking metal diamonds. Located at the center are an engraved rectangular title plate and a round Boston Chapter BBWAA emblem with crossed bats. Moderate signs of wear are age-appropriate, and overall this piece presents handsomely.

1980 Judge Emil Fuchs silver-plated serving tray. Measuring 30" x 20" at the widest points, this ornate tray is elegantly designed with regal floral and leaf scroll patterns, etched on the surface and in high relief on the perimeter. Engraving reads in full “Judge Emil Fuchs Award Presented to Earl Weaver for Outstanding Contributions to Baseball by the Boston Chapter Baseball Writers Association of America January 24, 1980.” Abundant natural age toning is evident, however the central region has been cleaned up to show the engraving so this stately piece is very attractive.
