After 65 years of wandering MLB diamonds across the land as also-rans, the franchise founded as the minor league Milwaukee Brewers in 1898 finally reached the promised land in 1966. Known as the Baltimore Orioles since 1954, this long-suffering team had moved from Milwaukee in 1902 and rebranded as the St. Louis Browns. Boasting a power-packed lineup and a deep pitching staff, the 1966 Orioles squad was directed by manager Hank Bauer, who received some much-deserved recognition for bringing home the first ever World Series championship in franchise history. One of Bauer’s prizes surfaces with this 1966 The Sporting News Manager of the Year Award. Measuring 12" x 15", this prestigious plaque is centered with a die-cut metal portrait of Bauer. Located above Bauer’s head, is the Sporting News title plate, and below his neck is another plate, bearing a description of his lofty accomplishment. Wear is minimal, and this proud piece of baseball history presents handsomely.
