A battle of unbeatens took place on 11/2/1901, when the Princeton Tigers faced the Cornell Big Red, at Percy Field in Ithaca. Both of these Ivy League squads finished in the top 6 that year, and though Princeton triumphed over Cornell by a score of 8-6, the Tigers had to settle for being #6, while the Big Red came in at #3. From this long-ago contest of top ranked teams, comes this 11/2/1901 Princeton vs. Cornell program. Pictured on the front cover, are team captains Williamson Pell of the Tigers, and Bill Warner (CHOF) of the Big Red. The first two pages feature team photos of the competing squads, and photos of players and coaches appear on the last page, and inside the back cover. The spine is completely split, the front and back covers are detached, and inconsequential surface loss is noted at the top corners. Despite these conditions, the front cover is very attractive, however the back cover is spotted at six points with adhesive residue/surface paper loss. The pages remain clean, supple, and tightly bound, with the only detraction being oxidized staples. As there was no NFL at the time, this program and these teams were about as big as it got, and given the extreme scarcity of gameday souvenirs from this period, this antique program stacks up as a great prize.
