In the first half of the 20th century, baseball's best Cuban players (like Martin Dihigo, Cristóbal Torriente and José Méndez) suited up for Negro League teams...with one distinct exception. Havana-born Dolf Luque won nearly 200 games plus 2 World Series rings (with the 1919 Reds and 1933 Giants) during his 20 MLB seasons. Luque's oft-forgotten success helped usher in a postwar Cuban explosion for the likes of Sandy Amoros, Camilo Pascual, Minnie Minoso and more. According to the offered contract, Luque was still playing Cuban League ball even then, at the age of 60, although it could just as well be that a standard "Jugador" contract was also used for coaches. The 8-1/2" x 13" page is VG with age spotting and a staple mark. It promises 500 pesos and features a prominent "8"-strength signature. Full LOA from JSA.
