From a time when the Washington Senators were alternately known as the Nationals, comes this Clark Griffith typed letter signed. The "Old Fox" had long been in charge of the franchise, when he signed this letter dated 7/15/53. Typed on Washington Nationals American League Base Ball Club letterhead, this correspondence is in response to a longtime fan's request for a Walter Johnson autograph. While Griffith replied that he was unable to satisfy this request, the fan did wind up with the Hall of Fame pitcher/manager/owner's autograph, which is now yours for the claiming.
This nearly seventy year old letter shows great provenance with the logo and team information at top in red and blue. Trimmed to dimensions of 8-1/2 x 9-1/2", the watermarked letter remains crisp and attractive, despite several folds and a small bit of tape at top right. Griffith's signature at bottom right as team president, shows ("7-8") strength, and all typed and printed text and graphics remain distinct. Accompanying are the original Washington American League Base Ball Club envelope and a full photo LOA from PSA/DNA.
