It must be nice owning a big league ball club. One of the perks is revealed with this 7/16/41 Tom Yawkey typed letter signed. Addressed to Detroit Tigers owner Walter Briggs, this letter is a thank you note for a posh American League presidents luncheon held at Briggs Stadium. Yawkey (HOF, d.1976) was gracious in his remarks and finished with a stylish ("8-9") strength steel tip fountain pen signature. Typed on Yawkey's New York City address letterhead, this letter is stamped at top left with "Received Jul 17 1941 Walter O. Briggs Detroit Baseball Co" and there is a small pencil notation above the stamp, that reads "All Star 41", a reference to the 1941 MLB All-Star Game held at Briggs Stadium on 7/8/41. The full dimensions of the sheet of stationary are 7-1/2 x 11-1/2", and the page is folded to visible dimensions of 5-3/4 x 7-1/2". A horizontal compacting fold crosses the middle of the page with minimal impact on the typed content, and overall this sturdy letter is in excellent condition and presents handsomely.
