Get your "rah-rahs" out with this pair of early 20th Century football items. This dynamic duo is graced with abundant display appeal, recalling the early period of the passing game and hard-nosed players without face guards.

First up is a melon type football. Formatted with blunted end points, this antique leather ball retains a pleasing shape and has nine short stitch loops across two long stitches. The surface shows moderate wear, including small abrasions and light cracks, but remains reasonably supple. Obviously made before anyone thought of playing at night, this dark brown football without stripes bears a faint trace of a factory logo lettering on the same panel as the inflating valve, suggesting the maker could be D&M. Also present is an additional rubber inflation valve in respectable condition.

Topping off this offering, is a "leatherhead" style helmet, also of undetermined manufacture. A pleasing companion to the ball, this ancient relic is similarly colored dark brown. A button clasp cloth chin strap snaps easily into place and the exterior shows moderate overall wear, including small abrasions and multiple cracks, while the interior shows considerably heavier cracking, which has no impact on display appeal. Also noted on the interior, is an eight-strand cloth web with a leather disc at center. The letters "ZH" are embossed into the exterior surface at rear left, and overall this helmet reports in fairly solid shape.
