In reward for good works during WWI as "Assistant, Classification Section, Priority Dept., Ministry of Munitions", Joshua Goodland Esq., MBE, was appointed a Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire. This appointment occurred as part of the 1918 New Year's Honours by order of King George V. Offered here is Goodland's original 1918 Warrant of Appointment, signed by then Prince of Wales and OBE Grand Master Edward of the House of Windsor, who went on to become King Edward VIII in 1936. Measuring 17 x 11-1/2" this appointment is folded to 8-1/2 x 17" and bears content on two sides of the sheet. Located on the back of the page, Edward's signature shows ("8") potency and a stamped version of then King George V's signature appears at the top of the front side. This crisp document shows moderate signs of wear, but remains solid with fully legible content. Accompanying  is a typed cover letter note from the Central Chancery of the Order of Knighthood.

Also present are: 1.) Goodland's 1907 "The Council of Legal Education Certificate", which recognizes his passing of the examination allowing him "to be called to the bar", signifying he was eligible to practice law; this document has ragged surface loss along the right edge that does not affect the content or any of the three council member's signatures; 2.) a typed command to appear at an "Investiture of the OBE at Buckingham Palace", stamp dated "2/11/19" and signed ("9") by Colonel Douglas Dawson (d.1933) Registrar and Secretary, who went on to attain the rank of Brigadier General; and 3-5.)  (3) empty jewelry cases, including one marked "O.B.E." that was made to hold an OBE "Gallantry" medal. Auction LOA from JSA.
