Slugger Roy Sievers enjoyed his finest season in 1957, racking up career highs in home runs with 42, and RBI with 114, topping the AL in both categories. A shining bright spot for a dismal 1957 Washington Senators squad that finished dead last by 43 games, Sievers was selected for that season's Mid-Summer Classic. Served up is the original Wilcox International Silver Co. bowl presented to Sievers for participating in the 1957 MLB All-Star Game. A 2011 sale by a prominent auction company cites this bowl as having been consigned directly by Sievers at an event in St. Louis, and it has been in the hands of the buyer since the 2011 sale. Sized at 6-1/4" high, with a 12" in diameter across the top rim, this regal presentation piece is hallmarked "Wilcox I S International Silver Co. 335/12" under the 6-1/2" diameter pedestal base. The front of the bowl is engraved with a stylized star and the legend "All Star Game St. Louis July 9, 1957". Display appeal is strong, with considerable toning supports the authentic vintage nature of this historic treasure, which remains free of dings and cracks.
