To paraphrase fictional character Forrest Gump, "handsome is as handsome does." Presented is a 1946 Negro League World Series Game 1 full ticket that does handsome very well indeed. Hall of Fame pitchers played key roles in this long ago contest. Starting this Game 1 were aces Hilton Smith for the Kansas City Monarchs and Leon Day for the Newark Eagles. Halfway through the game, the Monarchs were ahead with a slim 1-0 lead. In the 5th inning, the great Satchel Paige came on in relief of Smith, and though he gave up a run in the 6th, the Monarchs got the run right back for him in the top of the 7th. Paige shut the Eagles down through the rest of the game, racking up 8 strikeouts, on the way to earning a 2-1 win. The offered ticket from this 1946 Negro League World Series opener is crisp and clean, with just a few nicks on the perimeter. These small infractions limit the grade for this big game souvenir to (VG-EX), however it really does present much better.
Opening Bid $150.
