“Play ball” with this c.1940s Marvel’s Pop-Up penny arcade skill game with key. Boxed in and wood painted a vibrant red, this ancient game is a countertop representation of the great game of baseball. A pennant on the right side of the playing field window bears the single letter “M” suggesting it is the Marvel Manufacturing Company team manning the field, while the batter is dressed in Brooklyn Dodgers blue. There are two knobs on the front, with the one on the right operating a batting flipper that hits the ball up and around through an array of pins. The left side knob controls a die cut fielder figure, capable of making a catch and depositing the ball in a hole on the playing field for an out. While both knobs function properly, the coin slot centered between them sticks when pushed all the way, and returning it to position is difficult. Branding is located to the left of the batter, and a small "Batting Average" window at the top left corner tracks results. Overall display appeal of this 19" x 12" x 18" arcade game is very good with moderate paint wear reinforcing its genuine vintage nature.
