Gain a pair of autographs from George Sisler, and read his answers to interesting baseball questions, with these (2) Sisler signed letters. One letter dated 2/8/52 is typed on Pittsburgh Base Ball Club Minor League System letterhead, while Sisler was serving at the Scouting Supervisor for the Pirates. The other letter is a handwritten example dated 5/7/66, when Sisler was scouting the St. Louis area for the Pirates. Both letters show moderate wear and remain attractive.

The 2/8/52 typed letter on Pittsburgh Base Ball Club letterhead has a (“7”) strength Sisler signature, written over his typed name and title “Supervisor of Scouts." Sisler answers two questions from a fan in the content. The first answer expresses his feelings on managing the St. Louis Browns, which reads in part “I came at a time when the fine Brown team of 1922 began to slip a little, due to age, and there were not very many capable replacements,” and “Any manager has got to have material and he must have a business office which will not allow it to grow old.” The second answer reads “I don’t believe I thought very much about asking for an unconditional release at the time. It might have been better for me to have left the team, but I suppose with all my family in St. Louis, I did not care too much about going, I guess.”

The 5/7/66 handwritten letter is written on the back of a typed letter from a fan, dated 5/3/66. Located at bottom next to an affixed photo clipping, Sisler’s signature projects (“9”) strength. The fan’s inquiry revolves mainly around Branch Rickey’s view that on-base percentage and runs scored are a better way to determine a hitter’s prowess and effectiveness, versus looking at batting average. Sisler states he has no knowledge of Rickey’s adherence to such thinking.
