A couple of elder statesmen are seen chatting it up, in this Honus Wagner signed and inscribed photograph. Wagner is pictured in his role of Pittsburgh Pirates coach, talking to U.S. President Harry S. Truman at the ballpark, in 7-1/2 x 9-1/2" matte print. This vintage photo suffers a 1 x 1/2" section of surface loss on the top edge, along with small tears at the top corners, which judicious matting should readily conceal in framed display. Wagner has signed thoughtfully over his jersey with ("8") strength, and he has included the salutation "With best wishes," and the date inscription "5-2-49." Written over Truman's double-breasted jacket is "guess who" in unknown hand. The embossed credit "Photo by Ruban" is positioned at the bottom-right corner, and the name "Joe Schultz" is written on the back. Given his status as a member of the Hall of Fame's 1936 first class, and his long ago demise in 1955, Wagner is a great prize for advanced autograph collectors. Full LOA from James Spence/JSA. Opening Bid $400.
