Bank a long deceased Hall of famer's autograph, with this 1958 Earle Combs typed letter signed. A 9X World Series champion as a player and coach with the New York Yankees, Combs (d.1976) went into the banking business after his baseball career. Dated 5/28/58, this twice-folded letter is typed on Department of Banking letterhead. In his capacity as Kentucky State Banking Commissioner, Combs answers a request for an autograph, and a game worn article with this correspondence. The addressee is Michael Lopota, who was seeking items for his "Sports Gallery". Combs' signature shows an ("8.5") degree of potency, and the letter remains crisp and appealing, with a small photo of Combs adhered at bottom right. Accompanying is the original envelope, which is postmark dated 5/28/58. Auction LOA from James Spence/JSA. Opening Bid $200.
