While the New York Yankees of the late-1960s to early-1970s were mired in the franchise's first postseason drought since the 1910s, there was a bright ray of sunshine on the scene, in the form catcher Thurman Munson, who would captain the team to three consecutive World series appearances from 1976-1978.
