One of the highly sought after real face bobble heads nods in your direction, with this 1961-1963 Roger Maris white square base figure. Maris was at the height of his fame, and the peak of his career, when this shelf-sized icon was issued. All four of the real face bobble heads from the 1961-1963 series are tough to come by, and while Maris was riding high at the time, he was viewed with hostility by many sportswriters and fans. Surely sales for his bobble lagged well behind those of Mickey Mantle, Willie Mays, and Roberto Clemente, who all enjoyed much greater popularity than the under-appreciated Yankees rightfielder, perhaps leading to the relatively few examples available in modern times.

Display appeal is abundant for the offered figure, which shows only slight wear. There's a 1/2" hairline crack behind the left ear, and an even smaller one on the chin, which is really just a superficial break in the surface paint. Wear on the head opening rim is minimal, and the facsimile autograph base decal shows a few minute specks of surface loss. There are also dots of white on the hat that appear to be a factory paint issue, though one spot on the back is definitely a pinpoint chip. All of these conditions are very minor, and unobtrusive, however they limit the grade to (EX-MT). Noted under the base are a "Patent Pending Japan" stamp, and a "MFG Under Exclusive License Japan" gold foil sticker. All in all, this is a very attractive piece.

Opening Bid $100.
