Show your collecting wisdom, by claiming this 1975 Rick Wise game-used Boston Red Sox jersey. A great bit of baseball history, this home jersey is identified as having been worn by Wise during 1975 postseason play. The Sox swept the Oakland A's in the 1975 ALCS, winning the first two games at Fenway Park. Wise started and got the win, in the Game 3 clincher at Oakland. During the 1975 World Series, Games 1, 2, 6, and 7 were played at Fenway. Wise got a no-decision in his Game 3 start at Oakland, and he picked up a win in relief at home, in Game 6. This was of course, the memorable game that saw "Pudge" Fisk wave his dramatic 12th inning walk-off homer fair, to stave off "The Curse of the Bambino" for one more game.
The positive ID of this jersey is derived from the fact that the Red Sox wore a Massachusetts Bicentennial patch on their left sleeves all season long, but did not wear it in the postseason. The accompanying LOA from Phil Wood states "This jersey shows no indication that it ever had that patch on the sleeve (or had it removed), leading me to believe this was a postseason jersey.". Given that Wise only had six postseason home games to wear this homer, pitching just one inning of relief at Fenway. this readily explains the minimal wear evident, and the overall excellent condition of this fantastic V-neck pullover model. Sewn inside the collar, is the McAuliffe Uniform Corp. factory label, and a size "44" tag, which are both moderately faded. Located on the front tail, are tags for washing instructions, and the year "1975". Red Sox letter patches span the breast area, and Wise's number "40" patches are seen on the back. Completing the simple design of this jersey, is red and navy trim around the collar. LOA from Phil Wood.
