A baseball man from his school days in the 1890s right up to a year before his death in 1965, Branch Rickey is best remembered for signing Jackie Robinson to erase baseball's color line for good. Make a must have acquisition for your autograph collection, by winning this 1944 Rickey typed letter signed on Brooklyn Dodgers letterhead. This letter of 10/18/44 was sent during Rickey's term of service as general manager for the Dodgers, at a time when he was hatching his plan for integration. The top edge of this 7-1/4 x 10" letter is irregularly trimmed, otherwise it remains very pleasing, with two original period compacting folds of little consequence to the content. Rickey's ("8-9") strength fountain pen signature is located above the lower of the two folds, at a position that is clear of impact. The letter is an affirmative response to attend an event held by "The Lambs Servicemen's Morale Corps" of Manhattan on 10/26/44, at the height of WWII. Full photo LOA from JSA.
