Be first in line for this document signed by one of the first recognized professional baseball players. One of the biggest stars of the 1871-1875 NAPBPP league and the following National League, Hall of Famer George Wright was also the highest paid member of the 1869 Cincinnati Red Stockings, the first ever paid professional baseball team. Among his business pursuits, Wright was also big in the sporting goods business.

Dated 12/9/27, the offered 8 x 6-1/2" document assigns power of attorney to J.A. Addleman as Wright's proxy, for voting at a stockholders meeting of "A.J. Reach, Wright & Ditson, Inc.". Removal from an album has resulted in a triangle of surface loss at the top right corner, affecting only a blank area of the page. The reverse is printed with the single word "Proxy", and the perimeter bears adhesive/paper residue. The obverse is fairly clean and this sturdy legal document retains great integrity, despite several compacting folds. Wright's steel tip fountain pen signature at bottom right is a potent ("8-9") example, as is that of the unknown countersigning witness at bottom left. A major player in the realm of Hall of Fame autographs, Wright (d.1937) stands as an elusive collecting target, and this satisfying example of a legal nature is about as good as it get when it comes to authentic provenance.
