Presented is a complete 82-sticker basic set of 1985 Topps "Garbage Pail Kids" stickers (Series 1), plus all possible variations. This offering includes both back variations for #5a, 5b, 8a, 8b, 29a, and 29b; making it a complete 88-sticker Series 1 master set. Clearly a parody of Coleco's popular Cabbage Patch Kids dolls (which ultimately led to a trademark infringement lawsuit), Topps Garbage Pail Kids cards were the brainchild of Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoonist Art Spiegelman (of Maus graphic novel fame), who was also the main creator of Topps Wacky Packages. Each sticker features a humorously drawn cartoon kid with a rhyming, alliterative, or word-play nickname. Topps Garbage Pail Kids stickers were an instant hit with youngsters, with many schools banning them because of their edgy content and the distractions they were causing.Condition is 70% Nr/Mt to Nr/Mt-Mt (including a few Mint) and 30% Ex to Ex-Mt (with a couple lesser, including a slight miscut to #1b). Keys: #1a Nasty Nick (65/35 L/R, otherwise Nr/Mt-Mt), two 8a Adam Bomb (Ex-Mt, checklist back and Nr/Mt+, "Cheater's License" back), and two 8b Blasted Billy (Ex-Mt, checklist back and 75/25 L/R, otherwise Nr/Mt, "Cheater's License" back).
