Description

The Ultimate Richie Ashburn Rookie! Graded FAIR 1.5 by SGC. Of all the regional food issues of the late 1940s, Lummis Peanut Butter examples are among the rarest and most desirable. Leading the way for this extremely challenging set is Philadelphia Phillies Hall of Famer Richie Ashburn. As the first Ashburn example from the issue that Huggins & Scott Auctions has made available for public sale, this "Whiz Kid" sensation is in a class by himself. The scrappy "Whitey" follows through on this 3-1/2 x 4-1/4" action pose that originates from the estate of a long-standing Philadelphia-based collector. Despite moderately rounded corners and staining to Ashburn's face and uniform, the overall presentation of this cornerstone is not seriously impacted. Despite the original owner adding his autograph to the reverse, the all-important advertising text is pitch black and attractive. To date, industry leaders PSA and SGC have graded only 38 total cards combined from the enigmatic issue with Ashburn comprising 4 total copies (two from each grading service). Build the foundation of your vintage regional collection on this Hall of Famer!
