Description

Walk off the bidding field a big winner when you score this 1962-1964 Washington Redskins black face, toes-up bobble head doll. Finding any piece from this round gold base series is a tall order, and the odds of discovering a Redskins example are astronomical. Along with Dallas and St. Louis, Washington was regarded as one of the southern outposts of NFL action in the early 1960s. The leading guide suggests that fewer than a dozen combined Redskins and Cowboys bobbles from this vintage series are known, while the existence of any Cardinals example is in question. In any case, Washington examples are regarded as the rarest.

A check of our archives reveals this to be the fourth black face Redskins piece we have had the pleasure to present. This makes sense, given Huggins and Scott’s proximity to Washington DC, being located on the north side doorstep of our nation’s capital. While this piece appears to have been restored, the results are very pleasing, with abundant display appeal. Light to moderate wear is evident on the crimson paint around the bottom of the helmet and on the left shoulder, and there’s a few flecks of paint loss on the front of the gold pants. The raised jersey lettering is full, the face guard bar is securely attached, the gloss level is excellent, the decals on the helmet and front of the base are 99% full, and the NFL shield decal on the top of the base is 100%. Signs of attrition around the head opening are minimal. However, the underside of the base has been painted a plum color. All things considered, this is a very handsome figure.
