Description

The NBA's first dynasty makes a regal appearance, with these (2) 1951-1952 Northwest Airlines world champion Minneapolis Lakers calendar schedule photographs. Founded in 1946, the Lakers won the NBL championship in 1948, the BAA championship in 1949, and four of five possible NBA championships during the span 1950-1954. Anchoring this renowned dynasty, was unstoppable center George Mikan, who is paired in this offering with teammate "Whitey" Skoog. These calendar page toppers are addressed on the back to the same Rochester, Minnesota fan, and feature airplane logos on the business side, with "Northwest" printed on a wing. Regional rarities cut from advertiser mailers listing upcoming Lakers games on monthly calendar schedules, these vintage promotional items are flat out tough to find in any condition. Touted as "Mr. Basketball", the Mikan photograph is trimmed to 8" x 7-1/2", and shows GD details, with a couple of small tears on the top edge near the upper-right corner. Trimmed to 8-1/2" x 7-1/2", the Skoog photograph, presents VG-EX details, with deference to a bit of red surface paper loss around the factory-punched hanging hole at top-center, and a written notation at left that reads "Feb 1952 Release". This pair is truly a fantastic find for dedicated basketball collectors.
