Description

Fine 1898 Cameo Pepsin Gum pinback featuring Phillip (Red) Ehret of the Cincinnati Reds. This nineteenth century portrait of the veteran pitcher showcases remarkable clarity given its advanced age and displays only minor age-induced foxing primarily impacting the perimeter. A slightly soiled Whitehead & Hoag paper insert is tightly nestled to the reverse. The manufacturer is primarily known for their series' of advertising pins of prominent political and theater personalities. The presented 1-1/4” sepia-toned relic features Ehret's name, position and team designation surrounding the image. While an online database notes the inclusion of Ehret in the set, the most recent edition of The Standard Catalog of Vintage Baseball Cards does not include hurler in the series and is presently uncatalogued.
