While its members were selected beginning in 1936, the Baseball Hall of Fame’s grand edifice wasn’t officially dedicated until June 12, 1939. At that memorable ceremony, this memorable photograph was taken and remains perhaps the revered institution’s most famous image. This vintage wire photo hails from the Philadelphia Inquirer library. Measuring 11 x 7-3/4”, the black-and-white photo features a caption (as printed on the negative) listing the 11 “living inductees” (though the group is missing both Cobb and Gehrig).

The photo presents beautifully, with a series of insignificant creases, as well as vintage stampings and grease pencil editorial markings on the reverse.
