Majestic circa 1920s Baltimore Black Sox pitcher period framed display. Measuring nearly 22-1/2 x 16”, the ornate wood framing proudly portrays the oval black-and-white image of the Negro League hurler. The subject gazes into the lens as he nears a follow-through of his pitching motion. Based on limited resources available, the player closely resembles Jim Jeffries who starred for the team during the 1924 and 1925 campaigns. However, history knows Jeffries as a southpaw. The most prominent ace for the 1920s Black Sox squads was Bob McClure. While game summaries and statistics of McClure are documented, the right-hander does not have a known photograph. Despite peripheral framing wear along with perimeter contusions to the sturdy cardboard canvas, the image remains clear and extremely attractive. The subject is a mystery worth solving and this piece is a sterling glimpse into a bygone age of our national pastime. More on our website.
