Satisfy your curiosity with this collection of (20) 1930s-60s baseball letterhead correspondence. Typed and signed by front office staff members this well preserved group of original documents feature fascinating content in response to inquiries by The Haskin Information Service. One particularly interesting note is a 1961 Yankees letter citing reports that none of Babe Ruth’s 1927 home runs bounced into the stands. Other standouts are Cardinals/Branch Rickey, Dodgers/Roy Campanella, Red Sox/Ted Williams and Yankees/Joe DiMaggio. More on our website.

The Haskin Service was a nationally syndicated newspaper column which covered a wide variety of current affairs. Often the subject matter was based on reader requests. All of the letters offered in this lot pertain to baseball and include information from NL and AL league offices, various Major League teams, the Sporting News and one from the International League. With the exception of one Sporting News letter which shows considerable peripheral wear these documents display in solid, appealing condition. Many feature authentic Haskin Service notations/markings and all but one are addressed to the Haskin Service. Demonstrating the idiosyncratic nature of baseball fandom’s obsession with trivia this significant collection addresses hot topics such as how did John McGraw get his nickname, what is Roy Campanella’s ancestry, which DiMaggio brother has the widest batting stance and how many times did the remarkable Ted Williams strikeout during his career.
