The first to fill the role of Yankee Captain since Lou Gehrig’s untimely passing, former backstop Thurman Munson met with a tragic fate, as well. During his reign in the Bronx clubhouse, the oft-moody star embodied the pinstripe tradition with a non-nonsense demeanor and tireless work ethic. While he wasn’t teeing off on opposing pitchers, Munson took to the links in his spare time. This golf club was part of his personal set and used as his competitive spirit never waned in the least. The “Toney Penna” 7-iron is a right-handed club with a rubber grip. On the club head, a custom engraving reads: “T. MUNSON MVP 1976.” The item shows signs of use and is an unusual “game-used” artifact from a legendary Yankee performer. Accompanying is a photocopy of an LOA from Munson’s wife, Diana Munson.
