As one of the most coveted cards in the industry, there is considerable scrutiny surrounding the 1933 Goudey #106 Napoleon Lajoie. The offered artifact has been validated by PSA at the very respectable grade of VG-EX 4 as this relic presents sharp color and beautiful contrast. This legendary card, as with all legends, has an incredible narrative. The Boston-based Goudey Gum Company inexplicably omitted card #106 from the paramount 1933 Goudey 240-card series. Without #106 present, children could not complete the lengthy set no matter how many gum packs purchased. A few conscientious consumers complained to the company and after enough complaints were lodged, Goudey decided to issue the #106 card in 1934. The company’s choice for the card was the beloved Napoleon Lajoie. The hitch was that the card was sent only via mail to only those scant few complainants from the previous year, hence creating the rarity and desirability of this card. The offered card features a well-centered image of the great Cleveland second baseman against a light green background. The color and clarity of this relic is astounding. The grade reflects the mild and natural corner wear and an almost unnoticeable paper wrinkle in the upper right corner. With a presentation that could easily be mistaken for an EX piece, this PSA 4 is a beauty. There can never be enough 1933 Goudey #106 Napoleon Lajoie cards to match demand in an industry where bragging rights are more important than dollars. Do not pass on the chance to own a beautiful example of one of the five paramount cards in the hobby.
