Boston Braves slugger Earl Torgeson takes a cut for a worthy cause with this 1949 Jimmy Fund countertop stand-up display. Sized at 9x11, this die cut, heavy cardboard sign is outfitted on the back with an unused easel fin. The front photo depicts Torgeson in follow through of a swing. The bespectacled slugger is posed against a proportionally gigantic baseball. Printed over the images, are the legend “Thank You! on behalf of “Jimmy,” along with a Torgeson facsimile autograph. A petition from the “Jimmy Fund Treasurer Boston Field” is affixed at bottom-right, on the bright, clean back. Torgeson's head is creased horizontally across the face and neck, however these two creases are fairly unobtrusive at arm’s length, and otherwise this vintage display is very handsome. Accompanying is the original mailing envelope, with Torgeson’s name printed below the Jimmy Fund logo. This mailer has a 2” tear halfway up near the right edge, but also remains appealing.
Opening Bid $100.
