Whether they like it or not, the 1987 Super Bowl Champion Washington Redskins sort of owe their replacement players a tip of the cap. They were strange days indeed during the 1987 NFL strike when Washington's division-rival Philadelphia Eagles fielded a rather portly player that coach Buddy Ryan referred to as "Gus the Kicking Mule". With NFL regulars out on the picket line, Washington's resident wizard Joe Gibbs made excellent use of his replacement guys, who kept the Skins season on track by winning all 3 games they played. From the first of the 3 replacement games comes this 10/4/87 Washington Redskins vs. St. Louis Cardinals ticket stub. PSA has encapsulated this offbeat treasure with a grade of (FR 1.5). The label reads "1987 Wash. Redskins/ Oct. 4 Redskins - 28, Cardinals - 21/ First Strike Gm. - Replacement Players". Two Redskins replacement players from this game had big days, with QB Ed Rubbert throwing for 334 yards, while his primary target Anthony Allen totaled 255 receiving yards. Doug Williams took over for injured quarterback Jay Schroeder during the 1987 season and made history by leading Washington to victory in Super Bowl XXII as the first black player at his position to win a Super Bowl.

Opening Bid $100.
