A couple of comic books firsts are at hand with these (2) late Silver Age issues from Marvel's The Avengers original first series with #54 and #55. As if facing the New Masters of Evil in issue #54 for the first time wasn't tough enough, Marvel's mighty super-hero team had to deal with Ultron in his first appearance in the very next issue, #55. Both of these important 1968 first-appearance issues have been blessed with favorable grades by CGC, with #54 first New Masters of Evil (8.5, Off-White Pages), and #55 (8.0, Off-White to White Pages).
These vintage issues are especially prized for being the first two appearances of the menacing, self-aware AI, Ultron, in his first iteration as Ultron-5. Inhabiting an adamantium body, Ultron was big hit in the MCU despite his intent on eliminating the human race in the name of world peace. Ultron's first cameo took place in the 7/68 #54 issue, and his first full appearance came in the 8/68 issue #55. Label notes for Avengers #54 are "Roy Thomas story, John Buscema and George Tuska art, John Buscema and George Klein cover. 1st appearance of the New Masters of Evil. Full page ad for Silver Surfer #1". Label Notes for Avengers #55 are "Roy Thomas story, John Buscema & George Klein art, John Buscema cover. Crimson Cowl revealed as Ultron-5 (1st appearance). Whirlwind, Radioactive Man, Melter, Klaw & Black Knight appearance."
