Began as a Sci-Fi/Horror anthology series in 1959, Tales to Astonish evolved into a super-hero proving ground that graduated Hulk and Sub-Mariner to their own solo titles at the end of the run in 1968. The evolution began with Ant-Man, followed by his mate the Wasp. Ant-Man then became Giant-Man, Hulk joined in, and finally the Sub-Mariner was added. Guest star slots saw the Black Knight and Abomination make their debuts, and Silver Surfer turned up late in the run with a couple of high-profile appearances, including a cover.
