With war raging around the planet, Timely Comics were exactly that. Diversions from the horrors of war were needed on the home front, but much more so for the brave military forces on the front lines. The original banner for what is now Marvel Comics, the Timely group delivered the goods with thrilling tales that made their way to the battlegrounds in great numbers. While most of the heroes came back home, the same can't be said for period comic books which were seen as a disposable form of entertainment after being passed around. The result is that comics published during the war years are in very short supply some eighty years later.
Timely's top hero surfaces here with this 12/44 Captain America Comics issue #43. This Gold Age treasure has just returned from CGC, with a grade of (3.0, Cream to Off-White Pages). This issue's gripping cover sees Cap and his sidekick Bucky taking on a half-dozen Nazi goons, including one who is on the wrong end of a kick to the groin from Bucky. Remember this was the pre-code era, when all kinds of crazy things were portrayed in comics. Also seen on the front cover, is an inset at bottom-right indicating this issue features a Human Torch Story as well. Truly a classic of the super-hero genre, this one is a great find. Label notes are "Syd Shores cover, Vince Alascia and Al Bellman art. Human Torch story."
