We'd say this one is top in class. Presented is an early-1900s Harvard football postcard. Reminiscent of the period's cabinet cards, this over-sized, unused card measures approximatley 6x8. Produced by famous maker, the J.I. Austen Company of Chicago, this large format card is graced with captivating artwork by even more famous artist Bernhardt Wall. One of the most prolific postcard artists of the day, Wall was known as "The King of Postcards". The Harvard Crimson squad was a national powerhouse from 1881-1922, earning 9 national championships, and finishing with a high percentage winning record in all but 1 season during this stretch. Showing light to moderate wear, this giant-size, antique postcard takes the field in solid (VG+) condition, with bold artwork, and fairly clean surfaces front and back. Though far from plentiful, standard size versions of this Harvard football postcard can be found, however we discovered no other surving examples of this large format type, and it sure looks to be rare.
