Find a fine pair of statement pieces with this 1953-1955 Wilson Official Negro American League baseball and factory box. All of this ball’s factory labeling stamps remain discernible, including the Wilson brand on the north panel; “Negro American League” on the sweet spot; “A1010 W150 Cushioned Cork Center” on the south panel; the facsimile signature of league president J.B. Milton on the east panel; and “Anchored And Balanced Winding” on the west panel. The reverse sweet spot is affected by moderate surface puckering, and light age-toning covers all panels. Overall display appeal is ample and the ball merits an (EX) rating. Consistent with the period, the box is truly a magnificent example with a solid shape, bold colors, distinct graphics, securely attached flaps, and a clean surface all around. The only detractions noted are small spots of surface paper loss on the top and bottom flaps, resulting from removal of the original factory seal. As the Negro Leagues are now considered part of Major League Baseball, relics such as this baseball have taken on broader historic significance and demand is stronger than ever.
