History was made in 1948, when Satchel Paige became the first African-American pitcher to appear in the World Series and the oldest baseball player to make his Major League debut. Playing for the Cleveland Indians, Paige came to the Majors in 1948, at the age of 42, and helped the Indians win the World Series. Earlier in the season the crafty hurler painted a couple of mound masterpieces, throwing back-to-back 9-inning shutouts on 8/13 and 8/20.

Here we have a Cleveland Indians ticket stub from Paige's 1-0 shutout victory against the Chicago White Sox at Cleveland Municipal Stadium on 8/20/48. This fairly well-preserved stub rates as (GD+) due a crease running through the Rain Check box at bottom; otherwise it presents attractively. Paige made his 13th MLB appearance in this game and picked up his 5th MLB career win. This was his 3rd MLB career start and he went the full nine, recording career strikeouts #21-25, against 3 hits, and 1 walk. Though he had already pitched for more than two decades in the Negro Leagues, this was technically Paige's MLB rookie season, making this vintage stub a great collecting prize.

Opening Bid $100.
